The eagerly anticipated Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship 2024 intake is set to commence on May 21, 2024.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will kick off the process by issuing invitations to apply to 35,700 potential sponsors, aiming for a total of 20,500 complete applications.
This year marks an increase of 5,500 invitations compared to the previous intake in 2023.
The selection process will span approximately two weeks, with invitations being sent out to randomly chosen individuals who submitted interest-to-sponsor forms in 2020.
Following the precedent set in 2021, 2022, and 2023, IRCC continues to utilize this selection approach for the 2024 intake.
For those who had previously submitted interest-to-sponsor forms but didn't receive invitations in the past three years, it's advised to check their provided email addresses for potential updates.
Applicants selected for the 2024 intake are required to electronically submit their applications through the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal.
To qualify as sponsors for their parents or grandparents, individuals must meet certain eligibility criteria, including:
Financial eligibility is determined based on income requirements, which vary according to family size and are outlined for the years 2021, 2022, and 2023.
For those unable to participate in the sponsorship program, the Canada Super Visa remains a viable option. This visa offers a ten-year validity with multiple entries allowed, enabling extended stays of up to five years per visit, with the possibility of a 2-year extension thereafter. These provisions facilitate longer reunions between Canadian citizens or permanent residents and their parents or grandparents.
In terms of processing times, the average duration for Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship applications across Canada stands at 20 months, excluding Quebec, where the processing period is approximately 33 months, as per the latest IRCC report.
